A wild polar bear was found roaming around a rural village in eastern Russia, hundreds of kilometers from its typical habitat. The exhausted and starved bear had traveled on an ice floe from the remote town of Chukotka to a village on the Kamchatka Peninsula, about 700 kilometers south. Russian authorities mounted an operation to relocate the bear to its natural habitat. The bear was tranquilized, put in a container, flown by helicopter and then released into the wild.
