Handout Overview

PLEASE NOTE: You might notice that there are articles (a/an, the) missing from the introductions in Part 1 – Warm up. On the second page, after reviewing article rules and completing some activities, students are asked to review the introductions in Part 1 and find the 16 missing articles. This is explained in the teaching notes on Page 3.

Your ESL students are introduced to the definite and indefinite articles ‘a/an’ and ‘the’. Rules and examples show usage and gap fill activities allow students to practice using articles.

Article rules covered in this handout:
A general object.
One of a number of the same objects.
A specific object that both the speaker and listen know about.
When there is only one of that object.
Superlatives, as there is usually only one.
