According to the World Health Organization, as of January 6th 2021, 235 candidate COVID-19 vaccines have been developed worldwide with 63 of them in clinical trials in countries including Germany, China, Russia, Britain, and the United States. Messenger RNA vaccines, also called mRNA vaccines, are some of the first COVID-19 vaccines authorized for use in the United States and are a new type of vaccine to protect against infectious diseases.
