In the Odd One Out ESL activity students have to work together to decide and explain why one of four objects is the odd one out. They must give a reason why. Ask higher level students to be creative with their answers so it’s entertaining for the other students when sharing the reasons afterwards. Not only should you get some interesting ideas but being able to justify a choice and explain reasoning is an important skill for your students.
Example objects/nouns:
salary wages remuneration prescription
Possible reasons why it is the ‘odd one out’:
A prescription is not money paid for work or a service. It is a written document that authorizes a patient to be issued with a medicine or treatment.
