The UK will be the first in the world to run a COVID-19 human challenge study, after receiving approval from the UK’s clinical trials ethics body. Backed by a £33.6 million government investment, the first-of-its-kind study for this virus is hoped to give researchers greater understanding of how the virus grows in the nose and the very early stages of infection in people before symptoms develop.
